Honeywell subsidiary UOP LLC announced today that Zhejiang Julong Petrochemical Co. Ltd. (ZJLPC) has selected UOP LLC to provide key technologies for the production of new propylene-producing units. Polylon's propylene production plant is located Pinghu City, Zhejiang Province, China.
Honeywell UOP will be responsible for providing engineering design, technology licensing, catalysts, sorbents, equipment, employee training, and technical services for the project. The device is expected to start in 2013 and will produce 450,000 tons of propylene annually.
In the global demand for propylene, China’s consumption accounts for more than 15%, and this consumption is still growing at an annual rate of about 5%-6%.
“This project is a major milestone for UOP because this is our first propane dehydrogenation unit licensed in China,†stated Pete Piotrowski, senior vice president of the UOP Process Technology and Equipment Business Unit. “We are very pleased to cooperate with Zhejiang Julong Petrochemical Co., Ltd. in this project to provide technical support to meet the growing global demand for propylene.â€
Lu Bichao, general manager of Zhejiang Julong Petrochemical said: “We look forward to working with UOP to use UOP's technology at Zhejiang Julong Petrochemical's plant, which will add propylene to our product line."
The plant's new propane dehydrogenation unit will use UOP's C3 OleflexTM technology to convert propane to propylene for the production of chemical products, films and packaging materials.
The UOP Oleflex process uses catalytic dehydrogenation to convert propane to propylene. Compared to the PDH process, Oleflex technology can achieve the lowest cash production costs and the highest return on investment because of its low operating and capital costs, high propylene production and reliability, and maximum operational flexibility. Since the technology was commercialized in 1990, Honeywell UOP has licensed nine C 3 Oleflex units for specific purpose propylene production. Earlier this year, UOP also announced another similar cooperation project with the Abu Dhabi refinery company (also known as Takreer).
