In the 2009/2010 financial year, Myanmar’s rubber export volume doubled from the same period last year, totaling 78,000 tons, generating foreign exchange of US$135 million. In the previous fiscal year, it exported 39,000 tons, which was US$73 million.
An official from Myanmar’s Ministry of Commerce stated that in the 2008/09 financial year, due to the financial crisis, the auto production market was in a downturn, resulting in a decrease in rubber demand, and the situation improved after entering the financial year 2009/2010. It is estimated that there is still a rising trend in rubber prices.
Myanmar's rubber is mainly exported to China, with the Chinese market accounting for 90%, and other exports to India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, South Korea, and Vietnam. The rubber sold to China is mainly produced in Myanmar, Karen State, Mon State and Drindaide Province and is sold to China through borders.
