According to the "Japan Economic News" report, the Japanese AGC (formerly Asahi Glass) company recently announced that it has jointly developed a glass antenna that can be used as a 5G base station with the Japanese communication giant NTTdocomo. This antenna can be installed on the glass window of the building, and plans to 2020 During the year, it was promoted to all of Japan centered on urban areas. Due to the shortcomings of 5G signal transmission distance is not enough, this technology can turn the glass window into a signal relay base station, which will promote the popularization of 5G.
According to AGC, the development of 5G glass antenna is the first in the world. The antenna is 20 cm long, 80 cm wide, and weighs about 2 kg. It can transmit 5G signals from the base station to a distance of 100-200 meters away. The antenna can be installed on the window using AGC's unique construction method. In order to prevent the signal emitted by the base station from being reflected by the window, special materials are embedded inside the antenna.
AGC expects that the demand for such antennas will increase, so a new antenna mass production plant has been built in a glass factory in Japan, and production has begun. The company said, "can meet the growth of 5G demand in the next few years."
AGC and docomo glass antennas for 4G have been put into use in October 2019. This product is based on 4G glass antennas, and the design has been adjusted to support 5G high frequency bands. In the future, we plan to develop antennas that can transmit signals at greater angles in areas with dense buildings.
