The development of material preparation and processing technology not only plays a decisive role in the research, development, application and industrialization of new materials, but also can effectively improve and improve the performance of traditional materials, and plays an important role in the upgrading of traditional materials industry. Directional solidification technology is widely used to obtain materials with special orientation and excellent properties. With the directional solidification method, oriented tissue or even single crystal can be obtained, which significantly improves the properties required of the material. The two solidification parameters of temperature gradient and solidification rate can be independently changed during directional solidification, which becomes an important means of solidification theory research. Directional solidification technology is established and perfected in the development of high temperature alloys. This paper introduces the basic principles of directional solidification technology, discusses the development process and existing problems of traditional directional solidification technology, and several new directional solidification technologies that have recently been developed.
