KANZACC Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Osaka City) under the Furukawa Electric Group has developed the “ENEFALL-DAN5215” compact hydroelectric power plant. Its characteristic is that as long as there is water flow, it can generate electricity even in places where there is no drop. The device uses an impeller and generator built into a 400 mm diameter cylinder. After sinking into a channel, the water enters the cylinder and rotates the generator through the impeller. The prototype can generate 0.5kW, KANZACC's goal is to make the output power more than 2kW. The plan is to launch products in the first half of 2017.

The usual small-scale hydroelectric power is to let the water fall from a height of 2m or more to turn the waterwheel, and some construction must be used to create a drop, so the setting cost is higher. The newly developed device utilizes the flow of water at the installation site and generates electricity without any drop in water. When using, simply sink the device into the drain and fix it with a wire or the like.

The trial product was equipped with a spire-shaped garbage filter metal mesh on the upstream end of the cylinder. The overall shape was like a shell. An impeller with 3 blades is equipped downstream from the port. The impeller uses a resin material for weight reduction. In the future, in order to increase the output power, the shape of the blades will be optimized, the rotational speed will be increased, and the generator itself will be improved. The prototype is 1635mm long and weighs 85kg, producing 140V three-phase alternating current.
