This is often the case in winter: There are only one or two people in a spacious room, but the heating system dissipates heat to every corner, which undoubtedly causes a lot of waste. For this purpose, the Senseable City Lab developed new technologies that allow the system to heat only the people present in the room.
The exterior of the Local Warming system is like a searchlight that is turning at any time. They are indeed "searchlights" in a sense. The system senses people in the room through dynamic sensors, then uses a series of mirrors and motors to bring the searchlight's infrared heat lamps to them. In this way, while people feel warm, the rest of the room still maintains its original temperature.
Through observation and testing, scientists were pleasantly surprised to find that Local Warming consumes only 10% of the traditional heating system in the presence of only two people in a room. Needless to say, this new technology saves energy and money.
Of course, the Local Warming technology is not mature enough, and the system is too large to popularize is a major drawback. Researchers are looking for solutions that are even more subtle. In addition, if a large number of people flood the room and exceed the number of heat lamps, there will be no heating.
It is understood that scientists are studying how to apply the same technology to the refrigeration system. Perhaps we can have more green and energy-saving methods in the summer and winter.
