In the afternoon of April 16, Wanzhou Haijin Aquatic Products Development Co., Ltd. introduced three million millimeters of South American white prawn horny larvae with the specifications of 2mm from Tianjin through 15 days of desalination. The fishes were sampled by professional aquatic technicians and bred to an average size of 12mm. For the shrimp cultured in freshwater, the survival rate for breeding is expected to be more than 80%. The success of dilute cultivation of P. militaris in South America has filled the technical gap in the city and provided seed protection for the culture of P. vannamei in Wanzhou and even Chongqing.
Penaeus vannamei is one of the eight aquaculture species promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2008. The coastal areas of the country are suitable for breeding and can be reared in inland freshwater basins. In order to effectively adjust the fishery aquaculture structure in the reservoir area, improve the fishery aquaculture efficiency in the reservoir area, and increase the income of people in the reservoir area, the Tianjin Fisheries Technology Promotion Station will include the healthy breeding technology of the Latin American White Shrimp in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area into its counterpart support project, arrange special funds, and implement personnel. On-site teaching techniques to ensure the smooth implementation of the project.
Local production of large-scale Penaeus vannamei seedlings that can be cultured in pure fresh water has significant breeding advantages over the introduction of desalinated shrimp seedlings in coastal areas. The first is to save the breeding cost, and the transportation fee can be reduced by about 60 yuan per 10,000. Second, large seedlings with a length of 30 mm or more can be provided, which can be raised in a double-season season. The third is to increase the survival rate, and the survival rate of the locally-cultivated seedlings in the local stocking is higher than that in the coastal regions. The introduction of seedlings is about 15 percentage points higher.
This year, Wanzhou District has implemented a 100-mu pond for double-season cultivation of white shrimp in South America, a multi-season factory aquaculture workshop of 4,100 square meters, and a 300-mu pond for fish and shrimp polyculture. It is estimated that 50 tons of commercial shrimp can be produced.
