Iran recognizes that oil production is hit hard by investment

According to a Reuters report on December 19 in Tehran, Iran, faced with the harshest sanctions in the West, said in a rare admission today that Iran’s crude oil production has begun to decline due to the lack of investment in its oil fields.

Iran’s Deputy Minister of Petroleum Ahmed Ghalebani told reporters on the Iranian Ministry of Oil official website SHANA today: “The Iranian crude oil production has fallen compared to the same period of last year due to the lack of investment in the development of oil fields”.

Gallebani did not provide specific figures on the decline in crude oil production.

Iran has not attributed the continuous decline in its crude oil production to the lack of investment.

As a result of the sanctions, most foreign oil companies are avoiding Iran’s energy sector.

Iran, the world’s fifth-largest crude oil exporter, currently produces an average of 3.5 million barrels of crude oil per day, but Iran hopes to increase its daily production of crude oil to 5.1 million barrels by 2015.
