According to the main researcher of the project, the addition of titanium dioxide to the paper will give the paper a good whiteness and will not be penetrated during printing. At present, domestic titanium dioxide products for papermaking are mainly low-grade titanium dioxide of anatase type, and the high-end market still needs large quantities of special rutile titanium dioxide.

In order to develop high-grade rutile titanium dioxide that can replace imported products, in 2012, the Chongqing Titanium and Titanium Products Research Center initiated the research and development of the “Paper-specific high-grade rutile titanium dioxide product development” project, which lasted nearly two years, breaking the high-grade titanium. White powder production key process "bottleneck".

It is reported that this industrial test produced a total of 357 tons of special high-grade rutile titanium dioxide for papermaking. The one-time pass rate was 91.6%. The key indicators such as water dispersibility, brightness, and hiding power were similar to those of imported high-end products, and were ahead of the domestic similar proprietary products. At present, the application evaluation and promotion of this product are being carried out simultaneously in the international and domestic markets.
