What is PX?
PX, the Chinese name para-xylene, is a derivative of benzene and an important chemical raw material. Para-xylene may be abbreviated as "PX", in which the English letter "P" is an abbreviation of "para" and means "aligning." Paraxylene is one of the xylene isomers, and the remaining isomers include o-xylene and m-xylene. Para-xylene is a common raw material in the industry, and is often used in large quantities. It is generally used for the preparation of terephthalic acid or polyester, and its polymerization product is parylene.
Health hazards of PX Health hazards: Xylene has irritating effects on the eyes and upper respiratory tract, and has anesthetic effects on the central nervous system at high concentrations.
Acute poisoning: Inhalation of higher concentrations in the short term can cause significant irritation of the eyes and upper respiratory tract, conjunctival and pharyngeal congestion, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, chest tightness, weakness in the limbs, confusion, and gait. Severe cases may have restlessness, convulsions or coma, and some may have rickets.
Chronic effects: Long-term exposure to neurasthenia syndrome, women workers have abnormal menstruation, workers often have dry skin, chapped, dermatitis.
PX's Debate The International Assessment of Carcinogenic Authority of the Chemicals (IARC) evaluated the entire xylenes, including PX, and found that the evidence for PX carcinogenicity is insufficient, that is, there is no evidence of carcinogenicity to humans. The United States Government Conference on Industrial Hygiene (ACGIH) classifies it as A4, a substance that lacks evidence of carcinogenicity to humans and animals.
Cao Xianghong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, explained: “The clothes we wear, the quilt sheets we cover, the curtains we hang at home, are made of polyester fibers, including the water we drink daily, and the mineral water bottles are also It should be said that PX is a basic organic chemical raw material that makes our life colorful and convenient.If the technology is advanced, the equipment is reliable, and the control system is very complete, it cannot have an impact on the environment.
